We are so excited to share, that filming for School Through My Eyes has officially wrapped. We are so thankful to everyone who has taken part and supported us in the creation of our materials so far.

We are still working closely with our young people to develop these materials further and include some additional audio clips and case studies to share as part of our finished resource.

The School Through My Eyes project team will be spending the next few months working closely with our film editors to create our final videos which we are very excited to share with you and the professionals who support care-experienced young people across Scotland.

Here are some behind the scenes shots from our most recent shoot:

We were very grateful to have been able to interview Rebecca Munro as part of our project, Rebecca is a previously care-experienced young person currently working with a higher education institution in outreach, specifically, outreach to under resourced children. Rebecca shared lots of valuable insights in to her own experiences, and how these impacted upon her education, and how these have had a lasting impact into adulthood. Rebecca is enthusiastic and proactive about encouraging change for care-experienced children in education, her input in School Through My Eyes has been invaluable. We laughed and we cried hearing about Rebecca’s experiences, and I am excited to be able to share this with you soon.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful young people who have taken part in creating School Through My Eyes so far. It is such a privilege to be able to listen to our young people talk about their experiences, and their hopes and aspirations for the future. School Through My Eyes is an opportunity to share their voices across Scotland, and drive the necessary changes required to ensure care-experienced children and young people have a positive experience of education, and leave school to more positive leaver destinations in line with their peers.

School Through My Eyes captures the really positive work professionals are doing to support young people, and the positive impact of good relationships, consistency, and good communication. Our young people share stories of their own experiences that highlight good practice which can be shared amongst professionals who support young people with their education. We also look at the gaps and barriers to education, and how this has a negative impact on our young people and gives us an opportunity to hear from them about what needs to change to improve this going forward.

I am in awe at the strength, resilience and kindness of our young people who shared their stories with us in order to drive change. They have shared their story, the highlights and the learning opportunities as well as provided lots of helpful advice and tips for professionals and other young people when navigating education as a care-experienced young person.

We look forward to sharing more information, and some of our video clips, with you in early 2025. In the meantime please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, and please visit our website  for more information about how to get involved.
